The story behind “Deep Within”:
I painted this for my brother, Andrew—an artist in his own right. A photographer who’s always been drawn to beauty, not the loud or obvious kind, but the kind you have to lean in to see. The kind that hides in shadows and reflection.
“Deep Within” is about that kind of seeing. A woman, submerged in water, suspended between stillness and motion. Her face is calm, her body at ease—but there’s a sense of surrender here too. A quiet letting go. The kind that happens when you stop fighting the current and finally allow yourself to feel it.
Water has always held symbolism for me—cleansing, mystery, the Spirit, the space between. In painting her, I found myself reflecting on the way Andrew looks at the world. How he’s always seen what others miss. How he’s taught me that beauty isn’t always at eye level—it’s often hidden just beneath.
