Depths of Spirit is one of the most vibrant pieces in the Living Waters collection — an exploration of the mystery and movement of God in places that feel vast, wild, and unknowable. Painted outdoors in the Thousand Islands while my daughter Autumn, just a few months old, slept beside me, this piece felt like it came from somewhere deeper than thought — a place beneath the surface, stirred by awe and new love.
The bold blue background creates a sense of both ocean and sky — of something boundless. From it, deep burgundy and plum-toned forms rise and drift like coral, fire, or Spirit itself, reaching out in branching trails. Golden flecks shimmer through the layers, catching the light as if reflecting something holy just below the surface.
