New Light I is the first in a soft, Spirit-led trio within the Living Waters collection — a series created for new mothers in the earliest, most sacred days of motherhood. This piece was painted as part of a donation to a nonprofit in Brockville supporting postpartum women, with the hope that the original would offer peace and beauty in a nursery setting — a visual reminder that they’re not alone.
The title New Light speaks to the arrival of a new baby — a life just beginning, radiant and full of promise. It also reflects the spiritual light that enters our lives in these moments: the way God shows up gently, quietly, in the spaces we least expect.
This piece is awash in soft blues and whites, with hints of gold and aqua that move like sunlight through water. There’s a calming flow to the textures — gentle and luminous, like a breath or a lullaby. I painted it during a season when I was still soaking in the love of new motherhood myself, and I wanted that sense of tenderness and awe to live on in this work.
