Ignite

“Ignite” was painted during a golden summer on our acreage in the Thousand Islands of Ontario. My daughter Autumn was just a few months old, and I was completely wrapped in that first wave of maternal love — the kind that changes the shape of your heart forever. I remember holding her in one arm and painting with the other, the breeze carrying the scent of the trees and the sound of birdsong as I poured.

This piece reflects the intensity of that season — not soft or quiet, but bold, radiant, and alive. The saturated pinks and molten golds speak to the overwhelming beauty I felt in those moments. There’s a heat to it, like a rush of Spirit — a kind of spiritual ignition that burned through me as I stood on holy ground, a mother for the first time.

The deep textures and energetic flow in this painting remind me of how love doesn’t always come gently — sometimes it crashes in, fierce and all-consuming, and leaves you remade. “Ignite” is part of the Living Waters collection: a visual language for the unseen movement of the Holy Spirit, and a record of a summer when heaven felt especially near.
